Travel to Bald Head Island is by passenger ferry. The mainland ferry terminal is located at Indigo Plantation and Marina in Southport, North Carolina. The ferry runs on a set schedule, leaving the mainland on the hour and the island on the half-hour, seven days a week, weather permitting. Bald Head Island Transportation operates three passenger ferries: the Sans Souci (152-person capacity), the Adventure (149-passenger capacity), and the Revenge (125-person capacity). The distance from the mainland ferry terminal in Southport to Bald Head Island is three miles which takes 25 minutes.
PARKING
Parking at the Indigo Plantation Ferry Terminal is available. There are four lots and parking is determined by specific lot and length of stay.

Parking Lot D....$10.00/flat rate
A parking booth is located at the entrance to B Lot. It is staffed from 6 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. daily. Parking attendants can assist with minor automobile problems such as jump-starting vehicles or contacting local automobile repair businesses. Payment for all parking lots should be made at the B Lot parking booth prior to exiting the parking lot. After 10:00 p.m. exit codes or tokens may be obtained from the security guard located in the ticket office at the ferry terminal building.
LUGGAGE
     Luggage is transported to Bald Head Island on aluminium dollies stowed on the rear deck of the passenger ferries. When you arrive at the ferry landing in Southport, dock attendants are responsible for loading luggage and cargo from the luggage racks into the dollies and movement onto the ferry. Dock attendants may help you unload your vehicle if the workload of the moment allows. Otherwise, passengers are requested to place their luggage on the luggage racks. Items such as grocery bags, open boxes and loose items must be hand carried on the ferry.
     Usually, the cost of the ferry ticket includes the transport of luggage. However, items too large to fit in the dolly will require a special cargo ticket at an additional cost. Large items include bikes, kayaks and canoes. Surfboard and fishing rods must be hand carried.
